Betsy’s Battling the Bulge Tip: All of the chopping and simmering in this recipe will help to relieve the stress. Vent, don’t lament, and just let it go. Soups are soothing to the soul and can provide warmth and comfort. Use this fuel from within to help make you thin! This recipe provides foods that heal and reduce stress. Milk not only contains vitamins B2 and B12, but it has been proven to help reduce stress due to the antioxidants which help destroy the free radicals associated with stress. Turkey contains an amino acid called L-Tryptophan. This amino acid triggers the release of serotonin, which is a feel-good brain chemical. This is the reason why many people who eat turkey feel relaxed, or even tired, after eating it. L-Tryptophan has a documented calming effect. However, don't eat it fried, or your body will be so busy digesting the fats that you will miss out on the benefit of this food!
Chill-me Soup
3 wheat tortillas 1 T olive oil 1 onion- chopped t dried oregano
1 red bell pepper 2 cloves garlic, minced T chili powder 1 c. skim milk
2 turkey breasts, cubed t ground cumin
1 4-oz can chopped green chilies 1 c cilantro 1 8-oz chicken broth
1 15-oz can white beans Salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle a bit of cilantro on top of the soup.
Toast 3 wheat tortillas in an oven on 350 degrees for 8 min and cut into strips. Cook 2 turkey breasts, cubed in a pot with 1 T olive oil to brown. Season with salt & pepper. Remove turkey and add 1 T olive oil. Cook _ onion- chopped & 1 red bell pepperuntil soften (3 minutes) and add 2 cloves garlic, minced, 1 4-oz can chopped green chilies, and _ t ground cumin, _ T chili powder & _ t dried oregano seasonings. Cook for an additional 1 minute. Add 1 8-oz chicken broth and 1 c. skim milk and bring to a simmer. Stir in turkey and 1 15-oz can white beans and reduce heat to low and cook for 20 minutes. Serve topped with cilantro and tortilla strips.
